Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium
The 2024 Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium SA (SIDSSA) will take place from March 17 to 19 at the Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town.
Ahead of this symposium, a Business Day Dialogue — presented in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation of SA (IDC) and Infrastructure SA (ISA) — brought together a panel of experts to discuss how the development of infrastructure can drastically contribute towards the country’s economic recovery and growth.

Dr Hubert Joynt
He is a qualified transport economist and is registered as a Professional Planner. In addition, he is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa. He is also a Certified Economic Developer from the Economic Development Council of South Africa. His current work activities relate to infrastructure economics and infrastructure research.
He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management. He is actively involved in the academic world and has assumed numerous roles as co-promoter, examiner, or external examiner at UNISA, University of Pretoria, University of Free State, Technikon SA and Nelson Mandela University from graduate to doctoral level. His personal motto is “never stop learning”.

Mr Mohale Rakgate
Mohale Rakgate is the founding Chief Investment Officer: Infrastructure Fund, which is a “ring fenced” Division at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), established through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the DBSA, National Treasury and Infrastructure South Africa in August 2020.
Prior to this position, Mohale was a Group Executive: Project Preparation Division at the DBSA. Mr. Rakgate’s experience in this role included providing risk capital in the planning and preparation stages of sustainable infrastructure developments. In this role, Mohale was also responsible for DBSA’s climate finance activities which include accreditation to access concessional funding from entities such as the Green Climate Fund and Global Environmental Facility in order to support the development of infrastructure projects.
Prior to joining DBSA in 2007, Mohale was an investment professional with the International Finance Corporation based in Washington DC, working on infrastructure projects in various regions of the developing world.
Academic Qualifications:
Mr. Rakgate holds Master of Science Global Finance, HKUST-NYU Stern, Post-Graduate Certificate in International Management, University of London and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), University of Limpopo.

Ms Nina Yose
She joined the IDC in 2008 as a business analyst. She has held various roles within the IDC, from deal maker in the metals sector, mining and as a Regional Manager in the Free state.
She is currently the Head for Infrastructure, a role she has had since September 2020.
