Financial Modelling and Valuation Analyst (FMVA) ® (CFI)
With over 13 years of executive management expertise, Lerato, CEO and Technical Director at KEA Capital, has a wealth of experience to offer. His previous role as Chairman of City Power (Pty) Ltd saw him working closely with executive management to redefine Johannesburg’s energy sector. Lerato’s tenure as CFO at NSFAS and SABC deepened his financial acumen, setting a strong foundation for his current leadership position.
During his time at NSFAS, he had a stint as an acting CEO, where he gained extensive experience of working with a diverse stakeholder base, (that comprised of University Registrars, Vice Chancellors, CFOs, Student Formation, National Treasury and Department of Higher Education and Training). Together with the Executive Management Team, they conceptualized and successfully implemented a strategy to reconfigure the student registration process and the ICT system to ensure a successful 2018 academic year. The success of the 2018 registration process was premised on a collaborative effort with the all the University stakeholders.
Lerato has carried out consultancy work in the Higher Education Sector, since his departure from NSFAS, in the areas of strategy formulation, facilitation, financial modelling and business case development for UNISA Enterprise, (a wholly owned subsidiary of UNISA). He has also carried out consultancy work for Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance in the areas of market and economic analysis, to determine the competitiveness of the Institution.
As an Advisory Board member at LongMark Partners, a Private Equity Fund, Lerato contributed valuable insights to the investment strategy formulation in the Higher Education Sector, (i.e., enrolments, digital migration, new ways of teaching and learning and how that will impact the need for increased student accommodation).
Lerato continues to offer consultancy services to the University Enterprises, in the areas of innovation and technology. He has conducted interviews on the subject and continues to carry out research in the areas of innovation and how to commercialise these ideas, from the University sector.
Since the formation of KEA Capital, Lerato has led transactions in financial modelling, valuation of unlisted-medium sized entities, market analysis study, just to name a few. Recently KEA Capital has led mergers and acquisition transactions for unlisted entities, in the engineering and maintenance services, manufacturing, information technology and branding sector(s).
