Arena Holdings is proud to present the 2019 AMARAs – the much anticipated annual recruitment advertising awards whose aim it is to acknowledge excellent service within the industry.


Best Recruitment Advertising Agency

Results of an online survey will be aggregated and the agency that receives the highest ratings from its clients will walk away with the award. You/your agency will be contacted to provide an updated client list to e-mail the survey to.

Best Newsprint Creative

This year submissions will be accepted for three categories (i) Public Sector, (ii) Private Sector and (iii) Education Sector category. Agencies will be asked to submit material for this category.

The Publisher’s Award

This accolade will be awarded at Arena Holdings’ discretion

The Rising Star Award

This accolade will be awarded at Arena Holdings’ discretion

Entry Process

Best Recruitment Advertising Agency category

An online survey will be used to select the Best Recruitment Advertising Agency. Clients, who are serviced by recruitment advertising agencies within the public, private and education sector, will be invited to participate. Links to the survey will be e-mailed to your clients by 15 July 2019. The cut-off date for questionnaire completion is 30 August 2019, three e-mail reminders will be sent during this time.

Best Newsprint Creative category

To be eligible for the Best Newsprint Creative category, the advertisement/s need to have been published in one of the Arena Holdings titles (Sunday Times, Sowetan, The Herald, Daily Dispatch, Sunday World, Business Day, Weekend Post or Saturday Dispatch) between August 2018 and July 2019.

Judging Criteria

The winning advert should demonstrate creativity and innovation in the recruitment advertising space. An independent panel of judges will select five public, five private and five education sector advertisements as finalists.

The ‘Call to vote’ advertisement will then be published in the Sunday Times in September 2019 and readers will be able to vote for their favourite advertisements (per sector) during this period using the link provided. The readers’ choices, together with the judges’ ratings, will determine the winning advertisements per sector.
